Green Internet?
The internet makes information available without cutting trees, so it's already low-carbon, right?
Nope. Computers create an estimated
54 million tonnes of CO2 per year. That's equivalent to
5.4 billion gallons of gasoline.
What does it mean to be Green on the Web?
Living a green lifestyle extends beyond recycling and efficient light bulbs. Here is a bit of how sunWISE design operates:
- Committed to carbon-neutral hosting / data centers that use wind, solar and clean energy. (Many data centers use coal).
- Run by an off-grid micro-hydro system for two years.
- Will soon be part of a co-housing community that will power a shared office with renewable energy sources.
- Walk or bike to my computer (to work).
- Shared office space (shout out to the Building Tree).
- Use Skype or teleconferencing rather than flying to meet with clients and business partners.
- Choose recycled print materials and natural inks.
Voluntary Simplicity
Living close to nature, growing food and making conscious, responsible choices that consider the rest of the world. This is how I choose to live.
- Eat local, organic, mostly unprocessed food and shop at the local Co-Op.
- Annually support local Co-Op Radio.
- Participate on the Board of Directors and use the Carshare Co-Op.
- Build a small, efficient home with only the essentials.
- Freecycle and share.
- Volunteer and donate back to the community.
- Choose to be impeccable with my integrity.
